LWF Convention coming to Baton Rouge Feb 22-24

EASL Affiliate members are invited to attend some or all events featured at Louisian Wildlife Federation’s 74th convention in Baton Rouge at the Embassy Suites Hotel on February 22-24.  This is a great way to see what LWF does and how to get involved.  Here’s a some events EASL members might be interested in attending.

Vince Diez Conv 2012A Wildlife Soiree on Friday, February 22 featuring dinner and live music by The Wildlife Band (locally known in the EASL area).  Local humorist Jimmy Little and State Representative Clay Schexnayder will emcee.  The social event starts at 7pm and includes dancing, special presentations, raffles and a silent auction to raise funds for the LWF’s conservation education and advocacy work. Admission to this event is $40 but tickets  available at the door will be limited so RSVP soon to 344-6707 if you want to attend.

A wildlife photography workshop, which is free and open to the public, will feature presentations from local professional photographer Joey Bordelon and avid amateur photographer Father Gerald Burns. The session will be held from 3 – 4:30pm on Saturday, February 23 at the Convention’s hotel, the Embassy Suites Hotel. Both photographers will talk about their years of experience in outdoor and wildlife photography, recommend places in Louisiana that offer excellent opportunities for outdoor photography, share their tips on photographing wildlife, show beautiful photos, and Bordelon will explain how to get good shots using various cameras available whether from a camera phone or higher end gear.

Wesley and Jamie Johnson Conv 2012State Senator Gerald Long, chairman of the Senate Natural Resources Committee, will be the special guest speaker at the Board of Directors Luncheon on Saturday, February 23. Tickets to the Luncheon are $20 and the public is welcome to attend.

Francis and Dwain Gautreaux Conv 2012Saturday evening presentation of the 49th annual Governor’s Conservation Achievement Awards at a festive banquet honoring two individuals, three organizations and a business for outstanding accomplishments in 2012. Dr. Rex Caffey, Director of the Center for Natural Resource Economics and Policy at Louisiana Sea Grant and LSU AgCenter, will emcee the banquet which begins at 7 PM, preceded by a 6 PM reception. Banquet tickets are $45.

LWF affiliate members, including EASL, will be represented at convention to hear proposed resolutions on conservation policy on Saturday.
